Batter up ... huh?

Well, a baseball theme runs strong in this year's Fit For Life Half Marathon, which takes place Saturday, July 7.

The races start in the parking lot at Memorial Stadium, home to the Boise Hawks, 5600 N. Glenwood St.

Unique, custom-shaped medals reflecting the theme will be awarded.

Participants have a one-of-a-kind home plate stadium finish.

With that said, shouldn't beer and hot dogs follow the run? Ideally, yes! However, that won't be the case.

Instead, there will be a tasty pancake meal. Can't be mad at that.

Choose to run a half-marathon, 10k or 5k. All races are flat on an out-and-back Greenbelt (paved path) course.

It should be quite comfortable as the river cools and the shade of the trees protects runners for the most part.

In addition to staying on top of your overall fitness, the event is an ideal training opportunity for the upcoming Payette Lake Run (Sept. 2) and the City of Trees Marathon (Oct. 14).

The Fit For Life Half Marathon is a fundraiser for the Idaho Walk Bike Alliance, which promotes active transportation as healthy, safe and reliable for all Idahoans.

The registration fee is $48 for the half-marathon, $38 for the 10k and $35 for the 5k.
