With the holidays right around the corner, the season of giving is in the air.

And an opportunity to gift a child some fun money to buy whatever he or she desires is available.

Boise Parks and Recreation will host the annual Kids’ Holiday Shopping Spree on Thursday, Dec. 21, at the Target store at 6280 N. Eagle Road.

Donations are needed to help support this annual holiday shopping program for underserved youth in our community.

Children are chosen from after-school programs at a homeless day shelter and Title 1 schools that demonstrate significant need for this program.

Sites include the Grace Jordan, Morley Nelson, Whitney, Garfield, Jefferson, Hawthorne and Taft school-based community centers and the Pioneer Day Shelter — all operated by the Boise Parks and Recreation Department.

Each child receives a gift card to purchase gifts or personal items. About 150 children are expected to participate this year.

Online donations are accepted at bit.ly/2hsU2bo.

For additional information, call the Boise Parks and Recreation Administrative Office at 208-608-7600 or the Fort Boise Community Center at 208-608-7680. All donors will receive a receipt for tax purposes.

Don’t forget to write to Santa

As Santa soon starts to prepare his list, children need to get going on their wishes!

Through Dec. 24, “believers” of all ages can mail a letter to Santa at the big red letterbox at any local Macy’s store or online at macys.com/believe.

For every letter received in store or online, Macy’s will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish, up to $1 million, to help grant the wishes of children with critical medical conditions.

The letter-writing program is part of Macy’s and the Make-A-Wish team’s 10th annual Believe campaign, which includes other festivities to spread the spirit of generosity and goodwill.

Since 2008, Macy’s Believe campaign has brought together communities across the country, gathering support for the common cause and resulting in more than $15 million donated to Make-A-Wish. This season also marks a major milestone, as Macy’s celebrates $100 million in total giving to Make-A-Wish since 2003.
