2 cases added to database of officer-involved fatal shootings in Idaho

The Statesman combed media reports, public records and other sources this fall to create Idaho’s first database of fatal law enforcement shootings since 2000.

The database is designed to be updated as we learn of additional shootings from previous years or new incidents.

The most recent update, on Dec. 10, added two cases:

▪ On Dec. 7, 2003, Idaho Falls police officers shot Charles Hogoboom after he fired 11 shots at officers using a shotgun, rifle and handgun.

▪ On June 23, 2000, an Idaho Falls police officer attempting to serve a warrant shot Acel Frank Hines after the man attacked the officer with a bicycle.

These deaths bring to 50 the number of people known to have been killed in officer-involved shootings in Idaho since 2000.
