Residents displaced following fire at Boise senior care facility Sunday

Eight residents of a Boise senior care facility were displaced following a fire on Sunday afternoon.

Boise Fire Department crews responded to reports of a fire at Ashley Manor, at 3424 W. Hill Road, shortly after 4 p.m., Boise Fire Battalion Chief Jonas Dethman told the Idaho Statesman at the scene.

Dethman said they were able to extinguish the fire, which appeared to have originated in the building’s attic, in about 10 minutes.

Crews helped safely evacuate 12 people, including residents and staff.

“There were no injuries, fortunately, and that’s due to the staff’s quick thinking in getting them out,” Dethman said.

The building’s eight residents were unable to return to the damaged building. An Ashley Manor bus was at the scene to transport residents. They were taken to a new resident facility that was scheduled to open next week, according to Dethman.

The battalion chief said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

About 20 emergency units responded to the scene, including eight fire engines and two fire trucks, according to fire officials. Members of the Boise Police Department and Ada County Paramedics were at the scene to assist fire crews.
