Update: Fire departments extinguish railroad-tie blaze near Meridian school
Fire departments put out a fire that sent dark plumes of smoke over a Meridian school on Wednesday afternoon.
The Boise and Meridian fire departments responded to the fire at about 2:40 p.m. in the 4100 block of East Pine Avenue in Meridian, Ada County Dispatch confirmed to the Idaho Statesman.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames by 5 p.m., Meridian Fire Department spokesperson Jordan Robinson said in an email.
The fire involved “a large pile of railroad ties along the railroad tracks” at that location, according to the Boise Fire Department.
“Firefighters are actively working to extinguish the fire,” the departments said in a social media post earlier in the day. “Limited water supply in the area is making suppression efforts more challenging. At this time, there is no threat to nearby structures.”
The fire was located just outside of Lewis and Clark Middle School, according to a Statesman reporter at the scene.
Law enforcement blocked off the surrounding area.
