On a very smoky day, a new fire starts near Boise. Here’s where, what we know
The Bureau of Land Management and the Boise Fire Department responded Thursday to a vegetation fire, the bureau said on X, formerly Twitter.
The Southblack Fire is burning off Kuna Mora Road, about 10 miles southeast of Boise.
“Crews are on scene and working to knock down active fire spread,” BLM said on X. “No estimated contain or control at this time.”
The fire ignited on a smoke-filled day in the Treasure Valley. Blazes in Central Idaho, such as the large, uncontained Wapiti Fire burning near Stanley, sent smoke south and west into Boise overnight.
The Boise Fire Department referred the Statesman to BLM for comment on the Southblack blaze, as the fire is on BLM land and it is the lead agency. The bureau did not immediately return a request for comment.
Most of Idaho is projected to have above-normal wildland fire potential for August and September, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.
