Boise State to close downtown merchandise store. Why? What the university says
The Bronco Shop downtown is closing Saturday, according to Boise State University.
The nonprofit retail shop, located on Main Street in the Clearwater Building at City Center Plaza, sells Boise State merchandise, souvenirs and course materials.
The school plans to consolidate the store with its main location in the Student Union Building on campus. The university said in a news release that the move ensures more proceeds from the bookstore go directly to Boise State scholarships. Boise State said its university bookstore had record-breaking sales in fiscal year 2025.
“Centralizing operations increases efficiency, reduces overhead costs and allows a greater share of revenue to be reinvested where it matters most – benefitting students,” the release said.
Boise State did not respond to requests by phone and email for comment.
The Clearwater Building is also home to Boise State’s computer science department, according to the university’s website. The school also leases space on the second floor of the U.S. Bank Building next door.
The University of Idaho has its own downtown merchandise shop, called the Vandal Store, a block away on Idaho Street.
