One student flown to Utah hospital after Idaho school bus crash
An Idaho student was flown to a hospital in Utah after being injured in a crash Monday morning between two school buses, Idaho State Police said.
Both bus drivers were also flown to hospitals and one driver “required extrication,” Idaho State Police said.
The crash happened early Monday on Idaho 25 in Minidoka County, police said in a news release. At the time, 17 students were on the buses.
Police initially said in a press release shortly after 9 a.m. that four students were taken to local hospitals and were believed to have non-life-threatening injuries. In an update later Monday, police said one student was flown by air ambulance to a Utah hospital to treat their injuries.
Idaho State Police said it would not release information on injuries or the medical condition of the students due to the “age of those involved and ongoing medical care.”
The Minidoka County School District said in a Facebook post that the student was flown to a medical facility “for undisclosed reasons.” The rest of the students on both buses were safely evacuated, the district said.
The school district said it was grateful to the first responders and medical personnel who responded to the crash, and that school counselors would be available at the affected schools. “Our hearts are with our students, families, staff, and the entire community as we navigate this difficult moment together. Student safety is always our top priority, and we truly appreciate the patience, understanding, and support being shown,” the Facebook post said. The cause of the crash is under investigation, police said.
