Boise elementary school placed on lockdown while police tracked down suspect nearby
Garfield Elementary School in Boise was briefly placed under lockdown Thursday after police asked the school to limit activity as they investigated in the area, according to the district.
Earlier that afternoon, around 1:53 p.m., Boise police said they conducted a traffic stop for inattentive driving on West Boise Avenue and South High Street, when the suspect fled the scene, jumping fences and running through backyards, according to a Boise police news release. Police said they discovered the suspect had a stolen vehicle. Officers then set up a perimeter while searching for the suspect and “alerted a nearby elementary school.”
Around 2:50 p.m., Boise police found the suspect in a home on Leadville Avenue. According to police, he had gone into the home through an unlocked door and “threw a male resident inside the home on the floor.” Those inside the home were not hurt, according to the news release.
Shortly after at 3:02 p.m., the Boise School District tweeted that police had given the school the “all clear” and normal operations had resumed.
The suspect was booked into Ada County Jail on suspicion of two felonies — grand theft and unlawful entry, fleeing while pursued by law enforcement — and two misdemeanors, battery and resisting or obstructing officers.
