Treasure Valley voters approve school levies that will help fund teachers, tech and more
Voters in Canyon County on Tuesday night approved millions of dollars in supplemental levies for school districts including Nampa and Caldwell.
In the Nampa School District, voters approved a two-year supplemental levy for $8 million per year. The levy passed with 53.3% of voters in support and will replace the district’s current levy that expires June 30 of this year.
A majority of the funds from the levy are expected to go toward teachers, staff and programs, technology and curriculum, according to the Nampa School District website. Funds will also be spent on athletics, transportation and building security.
Voters also approved a two-year supplemental levy in the Caldwell School District for $4.1 million each year. About 55% of voters were in support of the levy. The district’s current levy will also expire in June.
The Caldwell School District will use the funds from the levy to preserve class sizes and continue several programs, including fine arts, athletics and other extracurricular activities. Funds will also go toward building maintenance and other operational expenses.
In the Vallivue School District, voters approved a two-year supplemental levy of $4.5 million per year. About two-thirds of voters — 64.7% — were in favor of the levy. The levy will support maintaining classroom sizes, and funding safe school aids, school nurses and extracurricular activities.
But the Vallivue School District’s $55 million bond to fund two new elementary schools failed. About 64.4% of voters supported the bond, but to pass, bonds need support from at least two-thirds of voters.
Middleton voters also approved a two-supplemental levy of $1.5 million per year for two years.
