Boise School District trustee resigns; members cite attacks over pandemic reopening plans

The resignation of Troy Rohn, a trustee for the Boise School District, was announced Friday as the school district continues to deal with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and stages of reopening.

Board of Trustees President Dave Wagers said during a meeting Friday that he had received Rohn’s resignation, and then distributed copies.

“He has a very kind heart and doesn’t feel comfortable making the decisions we have to make now,” said Wagers.

Trustees went on to discuss that the board and its members have received many personal attacks during the pandemic while trying to craft a safe plan for reopening schools.

Trustee Alicia Estey noted that some of the comments that are showing up as anger are based in fear.

The resignation still needs to be accepted by vote, which the board will do on Thursday, Oct. 1. The board then will accept applications and must appoint a replacement for Rohn within 90 days.

Meanwhile, the school district’s phased reopening plan is still on track.

The Boise School District has reported 23 confirmed and probable cases since online classes started Aug. 17.
