Eggers will be buried in Sweet following the service.

At about 2:45 p.m. Friday, the 64-year-old was struck by a car as he walked near the intersection of South Development Avenue and West Robinson Road, near the Boise Airport. He died at the hospital.

Police said Tyler Martinez was driving north on Development Avenue when he crossed the center lane and into the southbound lane, striking Eggers. Witnesses said Martinez continued driving, then crashed into a fence.

Martinez, 24, who was wanted on a warrant, was taken into custody. He faces a felony charge for probation violation, accused of violating probation for a 2015 felony burglary conviction.

The crash is under investigation.

Eggers worked at Firebird Raceway for 28 years. He was an experienced race starter and was called on to work national events.
