William F. Goodman Jr., 35, of Boise remained in the Ada County Jail Monday evening on three felony charges -- intent to deliver a controlled substance and two counts of assault on an officer.

He also faces several misdemeanors, including theft and resisting officers.

According to a Boise police news release Monday, officers responded to a report of a shoplifting in progress at a convenience store in the 8300 block of West Overland Road about 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Employees had detained a man whom they believed had taken items without paying for them. When officers attempted to speak to the suspect, he became combative and tried to run away, police said.

At one point the suspect, identified as Goodman, punched two officers in the head and upper body. Once Goodman was in custody, officers searched him and found a bag containing several baggies that contained a white crystal-like substance that tested presumptive positive for meth.
