Jay J. Roberts, 45, faces felony charges of rape, domestic battery and second-degree kidnapping, Boise police said Monday.

About 11 a.m. Sunday morning, police responded to a disturbance at a motel near the intersection of North 26th Street and West Fairview Avenue. Witnesses told officers a man had held a woman inside a room against her will, and police also found evidence of battery and sexual assault, police said.

When officers tried to talk to the suspect, identified as Roberts, in the parking lot "he became aggressive and confrontational with officers and reached into a bag," according to a BPD news release. Officers deployed a Taser to subdue the man, who continued to struggle as they put him in handcuffs, police said.

In addition to the felony charges, Roberts is charged with misdemeanor resisting officers.

Roberts was treated at a local hospital for injuries before he was booked into the Ada County Jail. The victim is receiving assistance through the Boise Police Department Victim Services Unit.
