Provencio, 18 at the time of the incident, pleaded guilty to accidentally shooting Fenton with a handgun he believed was not loaded. The shooting occured Oct. 17 when Provencio and Fenton were drinking and smoking marijuana with several other people at Fenton’w residence on the 2300 block of East Franklin Road. Fenton sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.
Provencio pleaded guilty in December. He must serve at least five years before he is eligible for parole, according to court records.
