Meridian man grabs for police officer’s Taser

A Meridian police officer fought off a suspect Sunday evening as the man reached for the officer’s stun gun.

Police were called to a disturbance at a house in the 1500 block of Northwest First Street at 7:30 p.m. A man was reportedly involved in a domestic assault.

The man, identified as Jacob C. Seward, 18, had destroyed an X-Box game console and was being taken into custody when he kicked the officer and grabbed for his holstered Taser, Deputy Chief Tracy Basterrechea said.

The officer was not injured.

Seward was taken to the Ada County Jail in Boise. He was scheduled for a video arraignment Monday afternoon before Magistrate Kevin Swain.

He is charged with felony and misdemeanor assault or battery on a police officer, resisting or obstructing officers and malicious injury to property.

Seward has two previous felony burglary cases pending, also in Ada County Court. He was charged with stealing items from a Walmart store last August and taking beer from a Maverik convenience store in November.
