Prosecutor seeks death penalty against Emmett man accused of killing girlfriend
Brandon Shaw, 23, of Emmett, could face the death penalty if convicted of stabbing his girlfriend to death in November, according to court documents.
The prosecutor in the case filed a notice of intent to pursue the death penalty on Jan. 7, according to court documents.
Shaw was accused of attempting to shoot his girlfriend, Chelsey Rae Malone, 23, then repeatedly stabbing her.
According to the probable cause affadavit, Shaw told investigators he had recently moved out of the North Nampa home they shared but broke in on Nov. 18, carrying a rifle. Malone called 911 and Shaw reportedly attempted to shoot her, but the rifle didn’t discharge. Malone then ran out of the house while Shaw grabbed kitchen knives and chased after her into the street. He stabbed her in the back and neck, according to the affadavit.
Shaw left the scene and reportedly told his mother he killed his girlfriend. His mother reported it to the police, according to the affadavit.
