Meridian man sent to prison for firearms violation
Jeffrey Southern, 47, was sentenced Tuesday to a year in federal prison after illegally possessing three firearms.
Meridian police responded to a dispute over a custodial exchange at a residence on June 4, 2014. Officers learned during their conversation with Southern that he was a convicted felon and that he owned several firearms.
Police went into Southern’s home and found one rifle and two shotguns. One of the shotguns was missing a serial number.
Southern was convicted of assault in February 1998 in San Luis Obispo County in California. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in that case.
He pleaded guilty to unlawfully possessing firearms in August in U.S. District Court in Boise.
Senior Judge Edward J. Lodge also ordered Southern to serve three years of supervised probation following his release from prison.,
