Homedale man shot by police died from multiple gunshot wounds
Ada County Coroner Dotti Owens, whose office conducted an autopsy on Gilbert Heredia and released the results Monday morning, did not provide details on the number of times Heredia was shot or where on his body he was wounded.
Heredia, 38, died in a Boise hospital Friday, six days after being shot during a confrontation with Homedale police.
Officers went to a house in Homedale to help with a custody transfer of four children, from Heredia to their mother. The mother was not there, and no one else was outside the house when Heredia was shot, Canyon County Sheriff Kieran Donahue said last week.
Donahue said investigators believe Heredia and both officers fired their guns. The officers are on paid administrative leave.
Police were called to the home several times in the two days before the shooting.
The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office is leading a Critical Incident Task Force investigation into the shooting. It could take several months for investigators to complete their examination, Canyon County spokesman Joe Decker said.
