Jacob Eskola, 19, faces a felony aggravated battery charge after an assault and brief standoff Thursday morning.

Garden City police say they were called at about 10 a.m. to the 4700 block of Windward Court, where they met a 21-year-old man who’d been stabbed in the back of the neck and was bleeding.

According to police, the man was Eskola’s roommate. The roommate told officers that earlier in the morning, he had tried to flee their residence in the 200 block of East 47th Street because Eskola was allegedly high on an unspecified drug and showing suicidal and homicidal behavior. When the roommate tried to leave, Eskola allegedly stabbed him in the neck, police said.

The roommate was able to escape and ran to another residence, at which point police and paramedics were called.

Police went to Esko;a’s home and, after a brief standoff, convinced Eskola to come out. They say Eskola had a minor cut to his face, believed to be self-inflicted.

Both Eskola and the roommate were treated at the scene, then taken to a hospital for further care. Eskola was booked into the Ada County Jail Thursday afternoon. He is expected to be arraigned at 1 p.m. Monday, after the holiday weekend.
