Aaron Z. Austin, 24, faces a felony charge of eluding an officer, plus misdemeanor DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.

Austin was arrested early Wednesday after police tried to pull his vehicle over for reckless driving and failure to stop at a red light and the car sped away about 2:20 a.m., Boise police report.

Officers located the vehicle a short time later after it crashed into a tree near the intersection of North 29th Street and West Anderson Street, police said. The driver, later identified as Austin, fled on foot and was located a block away, police said.

Breath tests found Austin had a blood alcohol level of 0.19 and 0.176, both more than twice the legal limit for drivers in Idaho. Austin was booked into the Ada County Jail, where he remained Wednesday evening.
