Meridian man enters guilty plea in fatal shooting
David Provencio, 18, of Meridian, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and the use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony on Monday.
Provencio shot and killed 15-year-old Tristan Fenton at Fenton’s Meridian home in October. The two were friends.
According to police, Provencio was in a bedroom with several other people, drinking and smoking marijuana, when group then took out two handguns. Provencio took one handgun and pointed it at Fenton; he told police he thought the gun he used, a Glock 19, was not loaded.
The incident was initially called in as a suicide, but after questioning, police arrested and charged Provencio.
Shortly after the shooting, a cousin of Fenton told the Statesman her family still loves and stands by Provencio, who had been living with the Fentons for the past year.
Provencio’s sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 16, 2016. He could face up to $10,000 in fines and up to 10 years in prison.
