Nampa man charged in woman’s fatal stabbing
A 23-year-old Nampa woman was stabbed to death Wednesday afternoon, and the man she lived with has been charged with first-degree murder, Nampa police Lt. Joe Ramirez said.
Brandon J. Shaw, 23, was booked into the Gem County Jail after he was apprehended in Emmett, Ramirez said. The victim’s name was not released Wednesday night.
Neighbors reported the altercation in the 2700 block of Berlin Place shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday, Ramirez said. Shaw, immediately identified as the suspect, fled before police arrived, but a tip led investigators to the Emmett residence where he was found.
The couple had lived in their Nampa home for between 20 and 40 days, neighbors told police. Three small children lived with them but were not home when their mother was stabbed, Ramirez said.
“It started in the house and ended up in the roadway,” Ramirez said. “Neighbors heard raised voices and called police as they watched the male chase the female out into the roadway.
“They heard yelling and screaming. One of these neighbors went out to see what was going on and found the woman had been stabbed.”
The victim was alive when paramedics arrived, Ramirez said, “but by the time they got to the hospital, they’d declared her” dead. She was stabbed multiple times, he said.
Police received two 911 calls from the neighborhood, Ramirez said. The first, at 3:49 p.m., reported a loud fight at the couple’s home, and a 3:54 p.m. call reported the stabbing.
Nampa detectives questioned Shaw in Emmett on Wednesday evening while other detectives remained at the couple’s home, going over the crime scene, Ramirez said. The subdivision is located east of Lakeview Park, between North Sugar Avenue and North Kings Road.
It is unclear when Shaw will be moved from the Gem County Jail to Canyon County’s custody, Ramirez said.
