A 25-year-old Caldwell man is in the Canyon County jail, accused of stabbing his brother-in-law while the victim was holding a small child, police reported late Tuesday night.

Bruce Wayne Costa Jr., 25, was arrested Monday night in connection with an incident late Saturday night, police said. He faces charges of aggravated battery and felony injury to a child and is being held on $500,000 bond, according to a Caldwell police news release.

Caldwell officers responded to a trailer park near East Elgin and North 13th avenues about 10:45 p.m. Saturday and found Noe G. Garcia, 35, with his throat cut, police said. The suspect, Costa, had reportedly fled the scene, but police located him at a local hotel after 10 p.m. Monday and took him into custody.

Details of Garcia's injury and condition were not available late Tuesday. The child witnessed the attack but was not injured, police said.

The altercation was allegedly over the use of the victim's vehicle, police said.

Costa was arraigned on the charges Tuesday. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 25.
