Caldwell police arrested Juan M. Lopez, 28, Thursday in connection with a Sunday incident in which a 37-year-old man was shot in the torso by a shotgun on his front porch.

The shooting happened about 7:30 p.m. at a home in the 2000 block of Lincoln Avenue. The victim was seriously wounded, and police did not have an update on his condition Thursday.

Investigators identified Lopez as the suspected shooter and an arrest warrant was issued Thursday, police said. Members of U.S. Marshalls Fugitive Task Force and Caldwell police detectives located and arrested Lopez in a home in the 800 block of South 5th Avenue in Caldwell, police said.

Lopez is a documented gang member, police said, but the victim is not, and the shooting was not related to gang activity. All persons involved in the incident have been identified and more charges may be filed as the investigation continues, police said.

The initial report from Caldwell police said two male suspects left the shooting scene in a dark car, and the victim reported seeing two males near his front yard when he went out on his porch. Three shotgun shells were located at the scene.
