A 24-year-old woman who had been living at the Port of Hope treatment center in Nampa was arraigned on a first-degree murder charge Monday, accusing of killing another resident early Sunday.
Kayla Teton is being held without bond in the Canyon County jail and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Nov. 4.
Nampa police responded to an emergency call around 5:30 a.m. Sunday and found a 52-year-old woman dead at the durg and alcohol abuse treatment center on East Florida Avenue. Information at the scene led officers to Teton, who was arrested several hours later in the 1000 block of Holly Street.
Court documents released Monday cite a witness statement that Teton hit the older woman in the head with a metal bar and then drop it, KIVI-TV, Channel 6 reports. The witness said Teton walked out of the with an “evil look,” KIVI reports.

Investigators believe the piece of metal came from a part of a sink in a Port of Hope bathroom, Channel 6 reports.
Police said Teton also goes by the name Desiree Shepard.
