A teen ran with a gun, shot himself in leg. Boise police investigating incident
A teen has been cited following the accidental discharge of a firearm in downtown Boise early Thursday that left him injured.
A Boise Police Department news release said that an officer on patrol at about 2 a.m. Thursday witnessed a person exit a vehicle while in the lane of travel near the intersection of 9th Street and Front Street. That individual, later identified as a 17-year-old male, was seen holding a handgun while running from the vehicle and into a nearby parking garage, according to the release.
Police then heard a gunshot, the release said, so officers secured the scene and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.
Officers found the teen with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police also said the teen was cited for a curfew violation and consumption of alcohol. Boise has a curfew ordinance for minors prohibiting them from being on public streets between midnight and 5 a.m., though there are several exceptions allowed.
In the vehicle, police found five occupants: three juveniles and two adults. One juvenile was driving, and that person was cited for minor in possession of alcohol, according to BPD.
Police are still investigating the incident and said there could be additional charges.
