More than two years after the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old, two Nampa men have been arrested on murder charges.

Nampa Police Department units worked to execute two warrants without incident Wednesday, according to a news release. Police arrested Elias Romeo Cervantes, 23, at 4:30 a.m. in the 10000 block of Cherry Lane, and arrested Gustavo Sanchez Jr., 20, of Nampa, at 7:30 a.m. in the 300 block of 15th Ave North.

Both were booked in the Canyon County jail on charges of first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.

Police said the charges are connected to the death Nampa resident Fabion Delagarza, who was killed in the early morning hours of Feb. 10, 2024, in the 2000 block of 5th Street North, according to a Nampa Police Department news release at the time.

“Nampa Dispatchers received several 911 calls reporting shots heard in the area,” the department said in the release. “Upon officers’ arrival, Delagarza was located deceased in the street from gunshot wounds.”

A second victim was injured in the shooting, according to police, and that led to the attempted murder charges for the two defendants.

“These arrests are the result of hard work, dedication, and relentless follow-up by the Nampa Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit,” Nampa Police Sgt. Brad Barnum said in a statement. “The events this morning were a great display of teamwork among the different units of Nampa PD and a testament to the dedication these men and women display daily, often while the rest of the city sleeps.”

Cervantes and Sanchez were previously arrested in 2024 on accessory to murder charges, but the Canyon County Prosecutor’s Office dismissed those charges “pending further investigation,” Carmen Boeger, Nampa police spokesperson, told the Idaho Statesman in an email.

Boeger said the “investigation continued and both were identified as the homicide suspects.”
