The Boise Police Department said officers arrested a man accused of beating a person with a metal pipe Tuesday evening after he led them on a vehicle pursuit.

He also was accused in a road rage incident earlier in the day.

At about 9 p.m., Boise police were dispatched to a residence on the 9000 block of W. Edna Street after receiving a report of a pipe attack, according to a news release. Officers found an injured man and saw the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Keith Earnhart, drive from the scene, the release said.

The man began driving at high speed through the intersection of Maple Grove Road and Fairview Avenue as police followed, the release stated, and he then turned into a parking lot, where officers performed a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver and stopped the vehicle.

Officers took Earnhart into custody on suspicion of two felonies: aggravated battery and fleeing or eluding police in a motor vehicle.

Police said the beating victim had “significant injuries” and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

The release said Earnhart and the victim were known to each other.

Earnhart was also identified as the suspect in an unrelated road rage incident from early Monday evening. Police allege that he approached a parked vehicle on the 11000 block of W. Chinden Boulevard, shouting profanities and causing damage amounting to more than $400.

He faces a pair of misdemeanors in that incident, malicious Injury to property and disturbing the peace, the release said.

Earnhart’s arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
