One person has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a shooting on the Boise State University campus early Sunday morning. A Boise woman was taken into custody following the incident.

At about 12:45 a.m., Boise Police Department officers responded a report that a person had been shot in the area between West Belmont Street and South Longmont Street, spokesperson for Boise Police and Fire Lauren Melink told the Idaho Statesman.

Melink said when officers arrived to the scene, they found a male with two gunshot wounds. BPD and Ada County Paramedics treated the man at the scene before he was transported to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, she said.

Later Sunday morning, a woman, identified as 21-year-old Boise resident Sophie Rains, turned herself into a Boise police station.

Rains was taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated battery, Ada County arrest records show.

BSU students and staff received an alert just after 2 a.m. about the incident, stating BPD is investigating a shooting that occurred in the alley near Belmont and Longmont. The alert advised people to stay clear of the area.

According to the message sent through the university’s emergency alert system, the suspect had fled the scene. Police described the suspect as a Hispanic female who is approximately 5-feet-3-inches tall, 120 pounds, and has brown eyes, black hair and facial tattoos.

At 4:43 a.m., staff and students received another message stating BPD took the suspect into custody.

The alert gave an “all clear”, stating there was no ongoing concern related to the incident and campus operations can continue as normal.
