A former Boise County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been arrested and stands accused of stalking, assaulting and attempting to strangle a woman he knew over a week ago.

The Meridian Police Department arrested Bryce Cole on May 14; he faces charges of aggravated assault, first-degree stalking and attempted strangulation.

Cole started as a deputy with Boise County in 2020 but was on administrative leave at the time of his arrest, Boise County Sheriff Scott Turner told the Idaho Statesman in an email.

According to the case’s criminal complaint, the attack occurred on May 10 in Ada County. The complaint alleges that Cole struck the victim with a firearm, held the firearm to the side of her head and placed his hands on the victim’s neck while applying pressure. It also alleges that Cole made repeated visits to a hotel room or residence of the victim, whom Cole is suspected of having a dating relationship with.

Cole was booked into the Ada County Jail and his bond was set at $500,000; online records show he is no longer in jail. He has a preliminary hearing set for May 28 at 8:30 a.m. at the Ada County Courthouse.
