‘Reckless and senseless:’ Two arrested for gunfire at Kuna death scene
Two men were arrested over the weekend for allegedly firing a gun while law enforcement and others assisted at the scene of a death investigation in Kuna.
In the early morning hours of Sunday, seven Ada County employees were processing a scene involving an individual who died by suicide near South Cole and West Ten Mile Creek roads, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Sunday night.
The group was forced to take cover about 2:36 a.m. when gunshots rang out and about a dozen bullets ricocheted near them, the sheriff’s office said.
No one was injured, and deputies were soon able to “break away and search the area for the source of the shots,” the release said.
Deputies said they located a vehicle “with its lights blacked out” heading north on South Cole.
“The passenger discarded a firearm from the vehicle, which deputies later recovered,” the sheriff’s office said.
Law enforcement arrested the 18-year-old Boise man driving and his 16-year-old male passenger. They were each charged with seven felony counts of aggravated assault.
The counts pertain to the number of people who were put at risk by the gunfire while working the death scene, which included two patrol deputies, a detective, three forensic scientists and an investigator with the Ada County Coroner’s Office.
“We are incredibly grateful that no one was injured during this reckless and senseless incident. Seven individuals were put in harm’s way — including members of our forensic science team and a member of the Ada County Coroner’s Office — who do not carry firearms as part of their duties,” Ada County Sheriff Matt Clifford said in a statement. “I applaud their courage and composure during what was already a tragic investigation.”
The passenger, who was booked into the Ada County Juvenile Detention Center, was also charged with a felony count for destruction of evidence.
