A 23-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly struck a 4-year-old riding a bicycle in Caldwell with his truck and then fled the scene, police said.

The driver was taken into custody not long after the incident in the 4800 block of Ida Red Avenue, according to a Caldwell Police Department news release. Police said he faces charges of reckless driving, resisting or obstructing an officer and leaving the scene of an accident, which is a felony. Online court records showed the same three charges.

The man was due in court Friday afternoon for an arraignment hearing.

Officers responded just before 4 p.m. Wednesday to reports of a vehicle hitting a child who was riding in the street in front of his home. The truck was traveling at high speed, according to a preliminary investigation, police said in the release.

The child had minor injuries but was taken to a local hospital by family after being evaluated by Caldwell police officers.
