Boise police announced they have a suspect in custody following a stabbing that occured early Tuesday morning, according to a department press release.

Police said they arrested James Rice, 24, of Meridian, on suspicion of felony aggrivated battery.

Rice is suspected of stabbing a man at an apartment near West Ustick and North Five Mile roads, according to police.

“A preliminary investigation indicates the suspect and the victim were involved in a verbal altercation before the stabbing,” police said.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the victim with injuries that “appeared on scene to be life-threatening” and provided life-save care until Ada County Paramedics arrived, police said. The victim remained in the hospital as of Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
