E-scooter driver killed on Ustick Road. Police investigating it as a hit-and-run
Meridian police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run after someone on a scooter was struck by multiple vehicles.
Emergency units responded at 11 p.m. Saturday to a scene following reports that a male was hit while riding an electric scooter on West Ustick Road near Settler’s Park, according to a Sunday morning news release from Meridian Police Department.
“Multiple citizens, including some witnesses, stopped to render aid,” police said. “Tragically, after life-saving measures were performed, the male was pronounced deceased.”
Officers said they seized the vehicles of two drivers at the scene who had struck the scooter or the rider.
Witness testimony indicated “one or more other vehicles may have already struck the male prior to these two” before fleeing the scene, police said. One of the vehicles that fled may have been a blue SUV, according to the release.
“At this time, it is unknown if the male was struck while riding in the roadway or if there was some other event which caused him to be incapacitated in the roadway prior to being struck,” police said.
As of 10 a.m. Sunday, police had still not identified the scooter rider.
First responders at the scene included Meridian police, the Meridian Fire Department and Ada County Paramedics.
Police asked anyone with information on this incident to call 208-888-6678.
