‘Heinous crimes against children’: Two Nampa men arrested in sex-crime cases
The Nampa Police Department arrested two men Tuesday in separate sex-crimes-against-children cases, the agency said in a pair of press releases.
Gregory C. Clark, 37, was arrested on suspicion of several crimes: three counts of production of child sexually explicit material, two of video voyeurism and one for possession of sexually exploitative material.
Clark is accused of setting up a covert video-recording device, disguised in a ballpoint pen, in the bathroom of a residence, using it to capture intimate footage of people, including minors, according to the case affidavit of probable cause.
Nampa police said they first received a tip earlier this week and opened up an investigation, which is ongoing and could lead to additional charges.
Police also searched a residence Tuesday in the 30 block of S. Ravine Way, leading to the arrest of 37-year-old Shea McHugh on 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a child by electronic means.
According to a court affidavit, the Boise Police Department received a CyberTip that an IP address coming from the address downloaded thousands of images suspected to be child sexual abuse material. The case was handed over to Nampa, and police said they found 10 images that contained known victims previously reported by law enforcement.
Both McHugh and Clark were arraigned Wednesday, and both are being held at the Canyon County jail on $500,000 bonds, online records show. McHugh’s preliminary hearing is set for March 5 at 8:30 a.m., and Clark’s is set for March 9 at 8:30 a.m.
Nampa police said child sex crimes are a high priority for the department because of their sensitive nature and urgency for the victims. The department said it encourages parents to “be involved with children’s social media and electronic device usage.”
“We will continue to pursue the likes of Mr. Clark and Mr. McHugh, who were both arrested ... and charged with heinous crimes against children in unrelated cases,” Nampa Police Chief Joe Huff said in a Wednesday release.
