A Meridian man has been arrested and charged with multiple rape charges after police received a tip about videos of the assault on a social media app.
The Meridian Police Department stated in a press release that detectives recently received a tip about an adult man who posted multiple videos in a chat room on Telegram, a social media messaging platform, of himself engaging in sexual acts with an incapacitated woman.
Police identified a 50-year-old Thomas Spencer, who lives in Meridian. He was arrested on Feb. 6 and charged with five counts of rape and five counts of video voyeurism, all of which are felonies.
Detectives identified the female in the video, who was incapacitated. Police say she did not consent to the activity and was unaware that the videos were made.
Detectives also found that Spencer was receiving controlled substances from other users on Telegram. According to the release, Spencer stated he used drugs to incapacitate the woman multiple times over a 5-year period.
