Update: Police name suspect in Meridian shooting, release new info

Police identified the suspect in a Meridian shooting that left one person dead on Sunday afternoon.

Ada County Dispatch received multiple 911 calls at about 12:39 p.m. about a shooting near the McDonald’s at 195 E. Central Drive, the Meridian Police Department said in a news release. The site is near the WinCo and Home Depot stores alongside Meridian Road just north of Interstate 84.

“Witnesses reported one male subject had shot another male victim multiple times,” police said.

Police said they found a 27-year-old man dead and the alleged shooter at the scene, according to the release.

Police identified the suspect Sunday night as Jacob Streat, 23, of Nampa. Law enforcement booked him in the Ada County Jail on a charge of felony second-degree murder, a charge that means the alleged crime was not premeditated.

Police said in an additional news release that Streat and the victim, who was not armed, approached each other in a parking lot before Streat “discharged a handgun, firing more than a dozen rounds, and struck the victim multiple times.”

“The confrontation may have been a result of a road rage situation or traffic dispute which took place on Interstate 84,” police said.

Police seek additional witnesses

The department is interviewing multiple witnesses and reviewing potential video footage of the crime.

The vehicles involved were a silver 2023 Toyota Tacoma and a blue 2009 Honda Accord, police said. The vehicles may have been traveling east on Interstate 84 between Nampa and Meridian at about 12:30 p.m. Police asked anyone who may have information on this incident to contact them at 208-888-6678.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

“This incident was isolated in nature and there is no ongoing threat to the public,” the police department said. “The loss of life is a tragic event, and the sensitivity of such an investigation is paramount as we conduct this investigation.”
