Boise man not legally allowed to own guns. Police said he had 51 of them
The Boise Police Department arrested a man this week they said was in possession of 51 firearms illegally.
Police say many of the firearms found were stolen from homes and storage units.
Court records show that the man arrested — 43-year-old Anthony Buhler, of Boise — has criminal convictions dating back to 1995, including aggravated assault, possesion of a controlled substance and theft.
Now he’ll be facing three felony charges of unlawful possession of firearms by a convicted felon.
A news release from BPD said police had evidence that there was a suspect with felony convictions who had stolen firearms at a residence on the 1200 block of Hartman Street. After obtaining a search warrant, officers searched the residence and said they found the 51 firearms.
Police said several of the firearms had missing serial numbers, and 10 were confirmed stolen from residences and storage units in Boise and in Washington state, according to the release.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible, police said.
Boise police say that firearm theft remains a serious concern in the community. According to the department, 55 firearms were stolen from residences, and from both locked and unlocked vehicles, in 2025. In 2024, there were 92 stolen.
Police encourage gun owners to secure firearms properly and never leave them in unattended vehicles. The city of Boise offers free gun locks at City Hall West, according to police.
