Police cite individual for false report of home invasion in Southeast Boise
The Boise Police Department issued a citation for a false report after an individual reported that a man tried to break into their home in Southeast Boise.
After conducting follow-up interviews on the incident that took place this week, police believe there was no wrongdoing and the man initially suspected to have intruded into the house had actually been invited inside.
One of the people who filed the initial report is now facing a citation for false reporting, according to a BPD Facebook post.
Officers began investigating the incident when an individual went to the police with Ring Doorbell images of a man entering their home and alleged the man tried to make physical contact with a woman sleeping inside.
On Friday, the police department posted a photo from Ring Doorbell footage of the man on its Facebook page and asked those with information to contact authorities. BPD also released an image of a vehicle connected to the incident. The police department has since removed photos of the man and the vehicle.
After police made contact with the man and conducted multiple interviews, the department released an update stating that the report was false, and that the man in the photos posted has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
The post stated that the evidence police gathered indicated the man was invited into the home by another male without the woman’s knowledge.
“Every crime report is taken seriously, and our detectives and investigative teams dedicate significant resources to evaluating information, following up on tips, and confirming facts,” the post stated in part. “This diligent process reflects the expectations of our community and the department’s commitment to accuracy.”
