Caldwell man arrested after neighborhood shooting, police chase
Police arrested a man in Caldwell on Friday evening after he allegedly threatened a neighbor with two guns and fled. A short chase ensued before police stopped and arrested the man.
According to a Caldwell Police Department news release, the man was brandishing two firearms and threatening a neighbor outside a residence on Freeport Street at about 6:15 p.m. After the alleged confrontation, the man fled in a car.
While on the phone with the victim, officers stated they heard multiple gunshots in the background. According to police, the man had returned and shot at the victim’s home several times.
No one was injured during the confrontation, police said.
Officers were able to identify and track down the vehicle using Flock cameras, a license plate recognition system, the release stated. Police said they found the vehicle with the man inside at about 6:30 p.m. near Cleveland Boulevard and Laster Street.
Police attempted to stop the man, but he fled in the vehicle. After a short pursuit, the man lost control of his vehicle near the Walmart parking lot on Cleveland Boulevard. According to the release, the man struck a street sign and an unoccupied vehicle.
The man then got out of the vehicle and tried to run, but police arrested him after a “brief foot pursuit.”
When officers searched the man’s vehicle, they found two firearms and two spent shell casings, the release said. Open alcohol containers and six additional shell casings were found at the original crime scene, according to the release.
