Meridian High School student arrested. Police said there were weapons in vehicle
The Meridian Police Department arrested a student Wednesday afternoon after officers responded to a call and said they found weapons in a car in a campus parking lot.
Police and the West Ada School District both said in press releases that there was no threat to the school.
Meridian police received a report from a “concerned citizen” over a student’s activity outside of campus, according to an MPD release. Officers located the student — whose age was not released — in a parking lot after they returned to the school, and made the arrest at about 1 p.m.
“Through the course of the investigation, officers determined the student had weapons in a vehicle upon returning to campus,” the release stated. “At no time was there a threat to the school.”
West Ada said that the school did not go into lockdown and that classes continued throughout the incident.
“The Meridian Police Department wants to reassure parents and community members that there was never an ongoing threat to students or staff,” the police release stated. “Both agencies will continue working closely to maintain a safe learning environment.”
