Boise police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man caught on camera trying to rob a local business.
The man, who was wearing a mask, was captured on store surveillance cameras attempting the robbery at a vape store on the 5100 block of West Overland Road, the Boise Police Department said in news release.
“Evidence shows a suspect in a black mask, and armed with a weapon, indicated he intended to rob the store and wanted a certain product,” police spokesperson Haley Williams told the Statesman in an email. “The store employee was also armed and the suspect left without taking anything.”
Williams declined to say what type of weapon the suspect had.
Detectives shared photos of the masked suspect and are also seeking any video taken from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday covering Orchard Street between Overland Road and Emerald Street.
They asked anyone with information to call Ada County Dispatch at 208-377-6790.
Police clear person of interest
Police told the Statesman on Wednesday that they no longer believe this suspect is connected to two Boise vape store thefts that occurred last week. Evidence indicated those crimes were committed by a different suspect, Williams said.
Those crimes included a petit theft at 6:25 p.m. Sept. 14 at a business on the 600 block of North Five Mile Road and a robbery at 12:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at a business on the 600 block of North Orchard Street.
Police released additional images of a person of interest, including one of a man on bike. That person was located and has been cleared.
“Thank you to everyone who sent in tips regarding this investigation,” police said. “Detectives have identified the person of interest, and he has been cleared of any involvement in the robberies. The investigation remains ongoing.”
