Suspect arrested after police said he eluded officers, rammed Boise patrol car
Sheriff’s deputies have apprehended the 32-year-old man who allegedly eluded officers trying to arrest him, rammed a Boise police patrol car and led law enforcement on a pursuit into Kuna last week.
The Ada County Sheriff’s Office arrested Erik Enriques near a Meridian subdivision Thursday afternoon with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service Greater Idaho Fugitive Task Force and the Meridian Police Department, according to the Sheriff’s Office. In a late Thursday news release, the Sheriff’s Office said Enriques was found around the intersection of North Meridian Road and East Woodbury Drive, and that once authorities approached him, he again tried to evade law enforcement.
He forced his way into a nearby building, the Sheriff’s Office said, eventually leaving the building and fleeing before he was detained and booked into Ada County Jail.
The first attempted arrest last week began when Boise police officers received a call to check on a “problem subject,” later identified as Enriques, at around 3 a.m. April 4, the news release said. Enriques was already wanted on a felony warrant for violating his parole.
Police found him about an hour later driving on the 600 block of Pearl Street on the Boise Bench. That’s when police said Enriques rammed an officer’s patrol vehicle and fled.
Officers from Boise, Meridian and Kuna, along with sheriff’s deputies, attempted to stop Enriques, who sped “recklessly” through closed roads and construction zones, the release said. Once he traveled into Kuna, the Sheriff’s Office took over the pursuit until he abandoned his vehicle near Kay Avenue and Ardell Road in Kuna.
Officers and deputies set up a perimeter in the Kuna subdivision and attempted to find him using police dogs, drones and specialized units, the release said.
Enriques was charged with four felonies from the initial pursuit: two counts of assault or battery upon law enforcement, one count of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer in a motor vehicle, and an enhancement for the use of a deadly weapon, according to online court records.
He was also arrested on suspicion of other crimes after eluding officers Thursday: felony unlawful entry, felony possession of a controlled substance, and a misdemeanor for resisting and obstructing, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Since Enriques was already on parole through the Idaho Department of Correction for several cases out of Ada and Canyon counties — and wanted on a parole violation — he likely won’t be eligible for bail. He’s expected to be arraigned on the criminal charges at 1:30 p.m. Friday, court records showed.
