Police seek witnesses after bicyclist struck, killed on I-84 ramp. Driver fled scene
State police are seeking witnesses to a fatal bicyclist crash on Tuesday night in Canyon County.
A 55-year-old Caldwell man was riding a bicycle east on U.S 20-26 when a car coming off the Interstate 84 ramp struck him at 7:03 p.m., north of Caldwell, Idaho State Police said in a news release.
The driver then fled the scene, according to the release.
Police said the bicyclist was hit a second time by a truck coming off the ramp and died from his injuries at the scene. The truck driver was uninjured.
Troopers are seeking the first driver, whose vehicle was described as a silver or light gray 2004-’06 Acura TL. It was last seen driving south on U.S. 20-26 toward Parma after the collision, according to police.
“The loss of life in this tragic incident is heartbreaking,” Idaho State Police Captain Mike Winans said in a statement. “We are committed to investigating and determining who is responsible. We urge anyone with information to come forward and help us solve this case.”
They asked anyone who may have information or video related to the crash to call Idaho State Police at 208-846-7500.
“Your information could be the key to solving this case,” police said.
Traffic was blocked for more than three hours as emergency responders assisted those involved and cleared the scene, police said. Idaho State Police is investigating the incident.
The Canyon County Coroner’s Office has not released the victim’s name.
