Boise police called during suspected North End burglary. Man stayed in home for 6 hours
Boise police took an alleged home invader into custody after a six-hour standoff on Sunday.
Police were called at about 3:10 p.m. on a report of suspicious circumstances at a North End home near West Sunset Avenue and 23rd Street, including a broken window and “loud noises coming from inside,” Boise Police Department spokesperson Haley Williams told the Idaho Statesman in an email.
“Upon arrival, officers secured the area and attempted to make contact with the individual inside,” Williams said. “They confirmed that someone was in the home, but the suspect refused to come out.”
Law enforcement sent out a Code Red alert to notify nearby residents of the police activity.
The suspect, a 26-year-old Boise man, refused to exit the home, according to police. Williams said the department’s Special Operations Unit, including the unit’s crisis negotiation team, was brought in to assist and spent several hours communicating with the man.
Law enforcement entered the home at about 9:50 p.m. and “safely approached him and took him into custody,” Williams said.
The suspect was booked into the Ada County Jail on suspicion of felony burglary and misdemeanor resisting or obstructing officers.
No shots were fired during the incident, Williams confirmed, though neighbors may have heard four loud sounds “related to either the use of a distractionary device or a tool used to open locked doors.”
