Officials have released the name of a Caldwell man who was shot and killed in Nampa on Sunday morning.

Jesus Leal Penuelas, 30, died at a hospital after an altercation with an individual at a residence in the 2100 block of Middleton Road, the Ada County Coroner’s Office said in a news release.

Deputies with the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at 1:15 a.m. after a shooting was reported, according to a news release. They found Penuelas with gunshot woulds inside a home.

“Deputies and bystanders began performing life-saving measures on (Penuelas) until medics arrived and transported him to a Boise hospital,” the sheriff’s release said.

Penuelas was pronounced dead at 2:03 a.m. in the emergency room at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, according to the coroner. The cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds in the torso and the manner of death as homicide.

The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation into the incident. Its detectives responded to the scene and questioned several individuals, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

“The case remains under investigation and will be presented to the Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review,” the law enforcement release said.

Jail records do not show anyone booked with homicide or other charges that would be related to such a shooting.

The Sheriff’s Office said it would not be releasing the names of the homeowner and other individuals who were at the residence at the time of the shooting.
