Boise man convicted for ‘violent’ rape at motel. He’ll spend bulk of his life in prison
A 26-year-old Boise man will spend at least 25 years in prison for the rape of a woman at knifepoint, the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release.
Fourth District Judge Annie McDevitt handed Alexander Rutledge a life sentence Monday afternoon, but with the possibility that he could be granted parole and released from custody after 25 years, according to the release. In August, a 12-person jury found Rutledge guilty of rape and an enhancement felony for using a deadly weapon in the commission of a crime.
An additional charge for felony aggravated assault was dropped, court records showed.
In March 2024, Rutledge met the woman at a motel near the Boise Airport, where he threatened her with a knife and forced her to perform sexual acts on him, the prosecutor’s office said. The woman was able to fight off Rutledge and run away, but she was significantly injured, according to the news release.
Within a few days of the sexual assault, the Boise Police Department asked for the public’s help identifying Rutledge, receiving numerous tips that led to his arrest.
“This type of violent crime has no place in our community,” Ada County Prosecutor Jan Bennetts said in the release. “I commend the survivor in this case, who has shown courage throughout this entire court process.”
