Ex-Idaho State assistant football coach sentenced in murder case. Here’s what happened
A former Idaho State University football coach was sentenced to 20 years in prison in Arizona on a murder conviction, according to court documents .
DaVonte’ Neal pleaded guilty to second-degree murder earlier this year in the 2017 shooting death of Bryan Burns along Interstate 10 in Tempe, not far from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Neal was coaching with the Bengals two years ago when he was indicted and arrested, the Statesman previously reported.
Neal was an athlete in college as well, playing as a wide receiver and then star cornerback at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
The court ordered Neal to pay restitution, and give up access to any weapons and money seized in connection with the case.
The maximum sentence he could have received was 25 years. He received a credit of 864 days for time already served.
