Police identify woman killed in Nampa crash; driver charged with vehicular manslaughter
Nampa Police arrested a 24-year-old man after a car crash killed a woman on Friday night, police said in a news release.
The woman, 26-year-old Brooke Taylor, was taken to the hospital where she died, police said.
The two-car crash happened near N. Middleton Road and Smith Avenue.
“A young woman lost her life last night because a young man chose to drive impaired. In today’s world, with so many ride options, there is no excuse for his decision to get behind the wheel,” Nampa Police Chief Joe Huff said. “Today, Ms. Taylor’s friends and family are left to face the stark reality of life without her.”
The other driver, Shaeden Robinson, was taken to the hospital, treated and released to police custody, police said. He was arrested on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter and felony aggravated DUI.
In August, Robinson was charged with driving without privileges and failing to have car insurance.
He has multiple previous charges and convictions for driving without privileges or a valid driver’s license, court records show.
There were 1,708 reported impaired driving crashes in 2023, a 5% decrease from the year before, according to the Idaho Transportation Department. The estimated economic cost of impaired crashes in Idaho last year was over $1.67 billion.
The penalty for an aggravated DUI is up to 15 years in prison, $5,000 fine, 5-year driver’s license suspension and restitution, according to Canyon County.
For vehicular manslaughter, the penalty is up to a 15-year prison sentence, $15,000 fine, an indefinite license suspension, restitution and potential child support to the kids of the person who died.
